Di Grassi returns to WEC with Ferrari at Le Mans

Ferrari has confirmed its driver line-up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with former Audi LMP1 driver Lucas di Grassi set to make his return to the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The Brazilian won the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and the final round of the 2016 season in Bahrain, but was left without a seat in the WEC when Audi withdrew from endurance racing.

A three-time podium finisher at Le Mans, Di Grassi will make his first appearance in LMGTE Pro in the No. 51 AF Corse 488 GTE, sharing with full-season drivers James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi.

The No. 71 car shared by Davide Rigon and Sam Bird will be completed by Spaniard Miguel Molina, who will contest the remainder of the season as part of the Spirit of Race line-up in GTE-Am.

Lucas di Grassi: “I’m very happy to be back at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Every professional racing driver wants to be part of history and to race for Ferrari means a lot to me. Manufacturer backed GTE Pro is undoubtedly the best place to be after my four years in LMP1.”
