Driver line ups fall into place for 6 Hours of Silverstone

With just over a week to go until the start of the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship, news from teams is coming in thick and fast, and many have now confirmed their driver line ups for the 6 Hours of Silverstone on 12-14th April.

In LMP2 Greaves Motorsport has assembled a talented and experienced Anglo-American trio to pilot the team’s Nissan powered Zytek.   Tom Kimber-Smith, European Le Mans Series Drivers Champion in 2011 and a three time class winner at the Le Mans 24 Hours, heads the line-up and will be joined by former American Le Mans Series LM P1 Drivers Champion, Chris Dyson.  Chris, who has started in over a hundred ALMS events, raced a Zytek at Silverstone in 2004, starting from pole position! Joining them will be young American driver, Michael Marsal, who will be making his European racing debut.

Michael is an experienced endurance racer, having competed with top BMW outfit, Turner Motorsport, in Grand Am’s Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge since 2009 and he finished runner up in the Grand Sport category in 2010. In 2012 he joined Dyson Racing in one of their LM P1 Lola Mazdas racing in the American Le Mans Series, scoring a class win in Baltimore with fellow Greaves Motorsport pilot, Eric Lux.

Also in LMP2, the newly re-badged Lotus Praga team has signed Jan Charouz for the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship season. The 25 year-old driver from Prague in the Czech Republic will race alongside German Thomas Holzer and Austrian Dominik Kraihamer in the No.32 Lotus entry.

Between 2010 and 2012 Charouz was official test and reserve driver for the Lotus F1 Team, and the Czech has also participated six times in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and won the Le Mans Series in 2009 with the Aston Martin LMP1 works team.

The LMGTE Am category will welcome a new face to its ranks with the addition of Italian Maurizio Mediani to the Krohn Racing line up.  Driving the distinctive green liveried Ferrari 458 Italia and aiming to help the team improve upon its third-place finish in the 2012 overall classification, the Ferrari 458 test driver will join team owner Tracy Krohn and his long-time driving partner Nic Jönsson.

Mediani tested with Krohn Racing at both Road Atlanta and NOLA Motorsports Park during the first few months of 2013, earning a spot on the team for the 2013 WEC season, following the departure of Michele Rugolo.
