As announced at the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) press conference in February, this year’s Grand Marshal at the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion, Mark Webber.

The Australian, who retired from the cockpit at the end of last year said he was thrilled to be nominated for the honour.

“It’s a very exciting time with a new season ahead, and of course the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be an absolutely cracking race again,” said Webber. “If it’s anything like last year, it’s going to be an incredible event.

“I am honoured to be asked as the Grand Marshal, so thanks to the ACO, the FIA, and the WEC. I am looking forward to it. I’ve never done anything like that before.”

Webber made his Le Mans debut in 1998 for Mercedes-AMG and went on to compete at the world-renowned classic for a total of five times, but an overall win eluded him.  Together with his team mates and fellow World Champions, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley, he recorded a career-best second place in 2015.
