Greaves Motorsport has been forced to withdrawn their entry from the Six Hours of Spa Francorchamps, the second round of the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship.
This is as a consequence of accident damage sustained during the Qualifying session for the race. Driving the team’s Nissan powered Zytek LMP2 prototype, Chris Dyson, in the first part of Qualifying, made substantial contact with the barriers.
A exhaustive examination by the team subsequently led to the conclusion that the full extent of damage to the front right corner could not be fully assessed. Therefore the decision was taken on safety grounds the car should not compete in the race.
Team Manger Jacob Greaves: “ The team and the drivers are naturally very disappointed at the decision to withdraw but in the circumstances it was the only course of action that we could follow. The safety of our drivers and of the other competitors is our absolute priority and we could not guarantee the integrity of the car. It is unfortunate but that is motor racing. We will be back pushing even harder at the next event. We will be racing two cars at the Le Mans 24 Hours, the pinnacle of the endurance calendar and we will be aiming to repeat our success of 2011.”
