The Porsche Team welcomed a special visit to the Nürburgring this afternoon (Saturday, 29 August), none other than Le Mans 24 Hours winner Nico Hulkenberg.
The German F1 driver was reunited with his victorious Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 car which brought him his very first Le Mans win at his first attempt, alongside fellow LMP1 rookies Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber.
The Porsche, nicknamed ‘Heidi’, was on display in the Nürburgring’s Ring Boulevard, in exactly the same state it finished the 24-hour race in June. It is traditional to keep cars in the same condition as they take the chequered flag, complete with dirt!
Hulkenberg, who was born in Emmerich but now lives in Ertingen in Switzerland, was present to watch Porsche’s Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb power to pole position for the 6 Hours of Nürburgring in qualifying this afternoon, and also chauffeured some very excited media guests on laps around the track. It was an action-packed few hours back in the WEC paddock!
