The FIA World Endurance Championship not only features visits to eight different countries on four different continents, but its 31 entries in 2014 also represent 10 different nations. Among those, for the first time as a full-season competitor, will be a team from Asia: KCMG.
The Hong-Kong based squad will be entering an ORECA 03-Nissan in the LMP2 class, alongside teams from Britain, the United Arab Emirates and Russia. It’s not the first time the KCMG name has been seen in an FIA WEC round as, in 2013, it became the first Chinese team to enter the 6 Hours of Silverstone and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, plus make an appearance in the rain-soaked 6 Hours of Fuji.
The team has confirmed that Britons Matt Howson and Richard Bradley will spearhead the driver line up in the Chinese team’s 2014 assault on the FIA World Endurance Championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans, with a third driver yet to be announced.
Paul Ip, KCMG Managing Director: “As an Asian-based team, it has always been our objective to expand our motorsport initiatives to a global scale and WEC has given us the opportunity to do so. The progress that we’ve shown in the past year since our debut in Silverstone has encouraged us to continue our campaign in Le Mans Prototype racing. Our plan this year is to extend our presence worldwide by committing to the season of the World Championship.”
