Porsche victory at Silverstone after Audi post-race exclusion

Driving the all-new Audi R18, Audi Sport Team Joest’s André Lotterer, Marcel Fässler and Benoit Tréluyer crossed the finish line today to take their second consecutive win at the 6 Hours of Silverstone after an incredible race-long battle with Porsche.

However, post-race scrutineering revealed that the No.7 car was not in compliance with article 3.5.6 a3 of the LMP1 Technical Regulations (thickness of the front skid block), and the Stewards of the Meeting decided to exclude the car from the race, as detailed in Stewards’ Decision No.27.

The outcome means that the No.2 Porsche 919 Hybrid of Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb takes the maximum race points from the opening round of the 2016 FIA WEC, with the No.6 Toyota Gazoo Racing being elevated to second place.  The No.13 of Rebellion R-One of LMP1 Privateer Rebellion Racing now finishes third overall in the classification.

  • Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb claimed second place on the track after losing time early in race with technical issue and through contact with No.67 Ford GT.
  • New Toyota TS050 HYBRID takes a podium position as Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Stephane Sarrazin claimed third place.

  • Rebellion Racing celebrates 1-2 in LMP1 Privateer class and 3rd and 4th overall as No.13 car of Alexandre Imperatori and Dominik Kraihamer and Matteo Tuscher take maximum points.
  • Superb debut win for Mexican-entered RGR Sport by Morand Ligier-Nissan as Filipe Albuquerque, Ricardo Gonzalez and Bruno Senna take LMP2 silverware.
  • No.31 ESM Ligier-Nissan takes second place for Pipo Derani, Chris Cumming and Ryan Dalziel.
  • Comfortable victory for No.71 AF Corse crew of Sam Bird and Davide Rigon as they bring home first-ever victory for new Ferrari 488GTE model.
  • Remarkable drive from James Calado and Gianmaria Bruni as they fight back from three-minute engine change penalty to claim runner-up position and secure AF Corse 1-2 finish.

  • Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK finish 4th and 5th on European race debut. No.67 Ford GT leads home No.66.
  • No.83 Ferrari 458 Italia of Emmanuel Collard, Francois Perrodo and Rui Aguas complete stellar day for AF Corse with LMGTE Am victory.
  • Aston Martin Racing finish second with No.98 V8 Vantage driven by Paul Dalla Lana, Pedro Lamy and Matthias Lauda
  • The number of spectators at Silverstone over the weekend was 52,000.

The next round of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship takes place at Spa-Francorchamps on May 7.
