24H Le Mans Virtual after 18 hours: Two Rebellion Williams Esports in the lead while Porsche controls GTE

After 18 hours of racing, two ORECA 07 LMPs from Rebellion Williams Esport vie for control of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual.

In the GTE category, Porsche and Corvette are battling with the No. 93 911 RSR of the Porsche Esports Team having a slight advantage.

Here are the highlights after 18 hours of racing in the two categories:

LMP:
• The No. 1 of Rebellion Williams Esport currently driven by Nikodem Wisniewski is still leading. This car is still being chased by the #13, another prototype from the Rebellion Williams Esport team. The difference between these two cars is 38 seconds. However, the No. 1 received a penalty (drive through).
• The Swiss team had a scare shortly before 8am when the No. 2 had a spin at Raccordement and was hit by the sister No. 3 car. The No. 2, driven by Gustavo Menezes, lost a wheel but was able to return to its pit box to make the necessary repairs.

• The spirit of endurance racing is also about helping each other.  Nicolas Lapierre from Cool Racing ran out of fuel in the pit lane and was unable to get to his pits.  However, Signatech Alpine Elf’s sim racer, Nicolas Longuet, pushed him to his pit where he was able to refuel. The No. 42 is currently in 22nd place in the general classification while the No. 36 is 28th.
• Currently the fastest lap in the LMP category is held by Team Redline's No. 20 – 3:25.336 - set during the 159th lap of the race.
• The cars with the fewest pit stops are No. 13 from Rebellion Williams Esport and No. 33 from 2 Seas Motorsport. These two ORECA prototypes refueled 27 times compared with 29 for the lead car.
• Paul-Loup Chatin, driver of the  No. 17 IDEC Sport Racing says: "We are going to remember some things from this first ever virtual race when we are at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in September. There are questions that we will ask ourselves in order to integrate applications used in esports and which can be useful to us."  This car is also being driven by Richard Bradley, Franco Colapinto and sim racer Michi Hoyer and is currently in 11th position

GTE:
• The No. 93 Porsche 911 RSR still dominates this category.
• The No. 80 Corvette C7.R of R8G Esports Team is ahead of the No. 92 Porsche.
• Currently the fastest lap in the GTE category was set by the #93 Porsche 911 RSR of the Porsche Esports Team, 3:48.203.
• The No. 95 Aston Martin Vantage GTE is 4th and the #88 Dempsey Proton Porsche 911 RSR is 5th, both two laps behind the leader.
• The No. 54 Strong Together Ferrari, official car of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, is in 10th position. This car is driven by former Formula 1 drivers, Giancarlo Fisichella and Felipe Massa as well as the WEC’s Francesco Castellacci and sim racer Tony Mella.
