24H Le Mans: Qualifying news from LMP2 teams

24H Le Mans: Qualifying news from LMP2 teams
21/06/2013

OAK Racing

1st - Olivier Pla/David Heinemeier Hansson/Alex Brundle, OAK Racing Morgan Nissan #24

9th - Bertrand Baguette/Ricardo Gonzalez/Martin Plowman, OAK Racing Morgan Nissan #35

17th - Jacques Nicolet/Jean-Marc Merlin/Philippe Mondolot, OAK Racing Morgan Nissan Art Car #45

The Morgan LM P2s designed and built by Onroak Automotive, OAK Racing’s constructor department, were on sparkling form during qualifying for the 81st edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Four prototypes produced in the French manufacturer’s workshops finished in the top ten of the category, with pole position claimed by OAK Racing and a great result for Morand Racing, who qualified fourth, and KCMG, who were sixth. All of which means that there will be a Morgan LM P2 on the front, second and third row of the starting grid!

Contested in changing weather conditions, qualifying for the 24 Hours of Le Mans was especially complicated this year. And yet the Morgan LM P2 prototypes all showed a remarkable level of performance, regardless of the engine or tyres used.

Nissan

Nissan-powered cars took the first three positions in the LM P2 class during qualifying for the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours tonight.  All three qualifying sessions were affected by lengthy red flag periods which has made it tough on the teams and most opted to run in race trim for tonight’s sessions in order to prepare for 24 hours of flat out racing coming their way this weekend.

ORECA

After taking pole position in the LM P2 class in 2011 and 2012, the ORECA 03 set the second fastest time in qualifying for the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours, thanks to G-Drive Racing by Delta-ADR and drivers Martin/Conway/Rusinov. The Russian team placed their two cars in the top five together with sister car driven by Nakano/Hamilton/Graves, while Murphy Prototypes took the seventh place with Hartley/Patterson/Chandhok. On Saturday at 3pm, eight ORECA chassis will come to life to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans – seven ORECA 03 and one Alpine A450 – seven of which are powered by a V8 engine prepared in ORECA’s engine department at Magny-Cours.
