Hypercar

  • Aston Martin hit the top in the second free practice session as teams continue to prepare for Sunday’s Lone Star Le Mans round of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship at Circuit of The Americas
  • Harry Tincknell peaked on a lap of 1m52.567s in the #007 Aston Martin THOR Team Valkyrie Hypercar
  • That effort proved to be 0.122s faster than the #35 Alpine A424 piloted by António Félix da Costa, in the car the Portuguese star shares with Ferdinand Habsburg and Charles Milesi
  • Genesis Magma Racing again unleashed strong pace as the South Korean marque continues its debut season in FIA WEC; an early lap of 1m52.811s set by the series’ inaugural champion André Lotterer proved good enough for third position
  • Alpine also placed fourth with the #36 car, as Victor Martins maintains his strong claim to be the most impressive rookie so far this season
  • Fifth-quickest in FP2 and the highest-placed Ferrari was the #83 499P Hypercar, as Robert Kubica and Yifei Ye attempt to reprise their 2024 victory at COTA alongside team-mate Phil Hanson, who recently extended his contract with the Prancing Horse
  • The two Ferrari AF Corse-entered 499P Hypercars ended the session just behind in sixth and seventh positions, with the #50 car narrowly shading the sister #51 entry
  • The second of the Aston Martin Valkyries placed eighth, as Marco Sørensen and Alex Riberas again drive as a duo at COTA this weekend
  • The pair of BMW M Hybrid Hypercars completed the top ten positions, with the Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo-winning #15 car a scant 0.009s ahead of the #20 car

 LMGT3

  • Aston Martin similarly set the pace in the immensely competitive LMGT3 category, as Zacharie Robichon punched in a late lap of 2m05.609s to leap to the top of the timesheets in the #27 Heart of Racing Team Vantage
  • Iron Lynx had initially bossed FP2 at COTA, with its pair of Mercedes-AMGs locking out the leading two positions for the majority of the session to send out a warning ahead of the six-hour Lone Star Le Mans race this Sunday
  • Maxime Martin set a rapid lap of 2m06.049s in the #61 machine to head the #79 Mercedes, with Matteo Cressoni posting that car’s best effort of 2m06.138s
  • The Garage 59-run McLarens were again close to the front after the #10 car had topped today’s opening session this morning
  • But this time, it was the #58 entry of Benjamin Goethe, Alexander West and Finn Gehrsitz that was the faster of the two in fourth position, just 0.103s ahead of the #10 McLaren
  • Porsche became a factor in the 90-minute session as the #92 The Bend Manthey entry of Riccardo Pera, Richard Lietz and Yasser Shahin placed sixth, ahead of Akkodis ASP Team’s #78 Lexus crewed by Hadrien David, Esteban Masson and Tom van Rompuy
