The second Free Practice session at Silverstone this afternoon saw Audi again top the screens but this time it was the #7 Audi R18 e-tron quattro that came out ahead.
Benoit Treluyer set a best of 1m41.526s in warm and bright conditions to head home the sister Audi Sport Team Joest car, driven by Oliver Jarvis, by just 0.298s.
Earlier in the session Jarvis set a succession of quick times at his home circuit but Treluyer swept to the fastest time of the day, as his time was six tenths quicker than Lucas Di Grassi’s best this morning.
The Audi 1-2 is sure to give the German marque's direct opposition from Porsche and Toyota much to think about overnight, with just one further 60-minute Free Practice session tomorrow morning ahead of the all-important qualifying.
Porsche Team placed third and fourth with the #17 Porsche 919 Hybrid ahead of the #18 example. Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas set the times respectively for the German manufacturer.
Toyota continued to work through their practice programme racking up an impressive number of laps with their significantly revised Toyota TS 040 HYBRID. The #2 Toyota, with a time set by Stephane Sarrazin led the #1 by just over 0.7s. Kazuki Nakajima set the time for the 2014 title-winning car.
The LMP2 class again saw G-Drive Racing enjoy a 1-2 placing. The Russian-entered team again topped the times with WEC rookie Pipo Derani calling upon his experience in F3 at Silverstone to register a very rapid 1m48.676s lap. Sam Bird set the #26 G-Drive Ligier-Nissan best time with a 1m49.315s lap. It was exactly the same order in LMP2 as this morning’s session with KCMG third fastest, Nick Tandy setting the best lap of 1m50.062 in the new LMP2 coupe.
LMGTE Pro saw Porsche Team Manthey 1-2 with the #91 Porsche 911 RSR heading the similar #92 machine. Richard Lietz claimed the best time of 2m01.499s, while Frederic Makowiecki claimed a time of 2m01.634s, just 0.135s adrift.
The #98 Aston Martin Racing entry of Paul Dalla Lana/Pedro Lamy and Mathias Lauda came out on top in the LMGTE Am class. Lamy set the best time early in the session with a 2m02.434s lap.
