The FIA World Endurance Championship is pleased to announce a charity run as part of its upcoming 6 Hours of Barcelona event, as the series teams up with the Pau Costa Foundation to raise vital funds in aid of wildfire prevention and management.

FIA WEC will host its first race in the Catalan capital this weekend (17-18 October), and before competitors go wheel-to-wheel on Sunday, fans, families and members of the paddock are encouraged to put their best foot forward on Saturday, by running or walking 5km around the famous Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for a good cause.

The initiative forms part of the world championship’s 2026 commitment to ‘Give Back to the Community’, by drawing upon shared values of preparation, anticipation, teamwork and safety to support pioneering projects taking concrete steps to tackle key issues.

Catalunya as a region has been repeatedly damaged by wildfires, and the Pau Costa Foundation – a global non-profit organisation active since 2011 – has made it its mission to promote the understanding and management of wildfires, foster wildfire prevention and contribute to building more resilient landscapes and societies.

To that end, the Pau Costa Foundation works tirelessly to connect researchers, first responders, landscape managers, public authorities and private companies to analyse, collect and disseminate data and information while promoting joint programmes worldwide.

By learning from past experiences and developing educational resources to shine a spotlight on wildfire risks, the foundation’s objective is to help make territories and societies better-prepared for future fires.

Operating under the tagline ‘Racing for Resilient Landscapes’, FIA WEC’s Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya charity run will contribute towards three key projects:

  • Les Gavarres 2026 Journal Club: Sharing lessons learned and turning the experience of one of Catalunya’s most significant wildfires of the summer into knowledge for the future
  • MeFiTu (The Mediterranean Forest, Fire and You): Raising awareness amongst younger generations by organising educational activities in primary schools within affected municipalities to explain the role of fire, forest management and preventative measures
  • Ramats de Foc: Providing direct support to livestock farmers whose herds maintain strategic forest areas through extensive grazing, thereby limiting the accumulation of combustible vegetation and assisting in wildfire prevention

Marius Louvet, Marketing & Communication Director, FIA World Endurance Championship, said:

“We are delighted to be joining forces with such a deserving and vital cause as the Pau Costa Foundation for this charity run, and we thank the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for its enthusiastic support. The run is aimed at bringing together fans and competitors in a true show of solidarity with local communities that have been so badly affected by these devastating wildfires, and we sincerely hope to leave a positive, tangible and lasting impact well beyond the race weekend.”

Jordi Vendrell, Director, Pau Costa Foundation, said:

“This contribution will enable us to promote initiatives in the area affected by the 2026 Gavarres wildfire – supporting knowledge, education and prevention while contributing to land management that strengthens resilience to large wildfires. We are very grateful to FIA WEC for its trust and commitment to turning a major sporting event into an opportunity to support more resilient territories and better-prepared societies.”

The charity run will begin at 17:30 CEST on Saturday, 17 October, and will be limited to 1,000 places on a first come, first served basis. Drivers and teams are invited to join, with Alpine having already confirmed the participation of a number of professional triathletes.

Entry costs 15 € and includes a special T-shirt. Tickets can be purchased either with or without standard Saturday admission. Those attending just for the run will be able to access the circuit from 16:00 CEST.
