おめでとう!
Many congratulations from all within the FIA WEC to Toyota Racing’s Kazuki Nakajima who became the 2014 Super Formula Champion at Suzuka, Japan last weekend.
The 29-year-old driver, who lives in Tokyo, claimed pole position and victory at the final round of the series and finished 7.5 points ahead of his nearest rival. In third and fourth places in the Super Formula Championship were Audi Sport’s André Lotterer and Loïc Duval respectively.
Kazuki said of his championship: “It’s always a relief and a pleasure to finally win a championship after a long season. Even though I won this championship two years ago, the pressure was still the same in that final race. I was really determined to do it and to take the title with a win is the perfect result. The season hasn’t been perfect but we were always in the title fight; I pushed as hard as possible and I am very proud to have finished the season as champion.”
The popular Japanese has remained in his homeland for the final round of the Super GT Championship, sharing a car with another FIA WEC driver, James Rossiter, who is also in a position to wrap up a championship title this weekend. As at COTA, Mike Conway replaces Kazuki in the No.7 Toyota TS040 Hybrid.
While not in a position to win the FIA World Endurance Championship title this year, his team mates Anthony Davidson and Sébastien Buemi are. Perhaps there will be even more reason for Toyota to celebrate at the close of the 6 Hours of Bahrain on Saturday!
