Fernando Alonso will make his first ever appearance in an FIA World Endurance Championship car this Sunday when he test drives a Toyota TS050 HYBRID LMP1 car.

The test, which will take place at the Bahrain International Circuit, will see the double F1 World Champion join Mike Conway and WEC Rookie test driver Thomas Laurent in the cockpit of one of the Toyota Gazoo Racing cars which will race in Saturday’s Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain.

The McLaren F1 driver is no stranger to the WEC paddock having waved the traditional Tricolore as the Grand Marshal and honorary starter at the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Spaniard was also an interested visitor in 2014 when he visited his friend and former rival Mark Webber in Bahrain.

Alonso has long expressed an interest in driving a WEC LMP1 car and has discussed his future plans to try endurance race in the future.
Alonso has been at the Bahrain International Circuit since Saturday as a guest of the Bahraini Royal Family.
