FIA World Endurance Championship drivers and teams will participate in a brace of activities next week in support of the global fight against hunger, in a charity-driven partnership with Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB).
CTFB is the leading non-profit hunger-relief organisation in Central Texas, working to provide immediate and equitable access to nutritious food for those in need. Through a combination of direct-service programmes and a network of nearly 250 non-profit community partners, CTFB supports over 610,000 food-insecure individuals annually via the distribution of more than 74 million meals.
Texas’ capital city, Austin, will welcome FIA WEC for the forthcoming Lone Star Le Mans – round six of the series’ 2025 campaign – at Circuit of The Americas on 5-7 September. During the build-up to the event, from 6pm - 8:30pm on the evening of Thursday, 4 September, drivers and team members will assist local volunteers on-site in distributing food parcels to 300 families – equating to approximately 1,200 people in total. Each parcel will additionally contain tickets to attend the race weekend.
Akkodis ASP Team, Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA, Ferrari AF Corse, Heart of Racing Team, Porsche Penske Motorsport, Proton Competition, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies, Team WRT and United Autosports have all already committed to support this initiative, along with drivers including reigning world champion Kévin Estre plus former Rolex 24 At Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring outright winner, Sébastien Bourdais.
In conjunction with this, a number of teams will engage in a collective fundraising campaign for Central Texas Food Bank entitled ‘Race with Us Against Hunger’, with an overall target of collecting $20,000 USD and a public leaderboard over the course of the race weekend to add a competitive edge. For every $1 USD donated, CTFB can provide three meals.
“We are pleased and proud to present our partnership with Central Texas Food Bank ahead of Lone Star Le Mans,” commented FIA World Endurance Championship CEO, Frédéric Lequien. “Corporate and social responsibility is an essential element of FIA WEC’s ethos, and everywhere we go, it is important that we find a way to give something back.
“I would like to warmly thank all of our teams who have generously agreed to support this vital initiative. While everybody clearly fights hard in an effort to finish first on-track, off-track, all rivalries will be set aside in the fight against hunger – what we can all agree is a far more important battle to win.”
“We’re grateful to FIA WEC and its teams for fuelling our mission to ensure every Central Texan has access to nutritious food,” added Sari Vatske, President and CEO of Central Texas Food Bank.
“Hunger is a daily reality for far too many of our neighbours, and partnerships like this not only provide meals but also raise awareness about the urgent need in our community. Together, we can turn the energy and excitement of this event into real impact for families who shouldn’t have to choose between food and other basic needs.”
