The Headlines from Free Practice 2

Hypercar

  • The Free Practice action continued for the 2025 6 Hours of Fuji and round seven of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship with another dry and sunny session at Fuji Speedway this afternoon
  • Peugeot TotalEnergies continued its fine form by topping the times again as Mikkel Jensen lapped fastest on a best lap of 1m29.495s. The Dane’s flyer proved to be a slender 0.017s quicker than the #5 Porsche Penske 963 Hypercar driven by Julien Andlauer and Mathieu Jaminet
  • The Aston Martin Heart of Racing Valkyrie Hypercars again prove pacy as the #009 entry of Marco Sorensen and Alex Riberas placed third. The sister #009 machine claimed ninth in the overall rankings
  • Toyota Gazoo Racing was fourth as it attempts to claim a remarkable 10th victory at its home race since 2012. The #8 Toyota GR010 Hypercar headed the #35 Alpine A424 Hypercar, as the French manufacturer pushes this Sunday to at least reprise its best ever WEC result of third place, which was claimed at Fuji 12 months ago
  • The #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid sandwiched the Alpine, as Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries are joined again by Mike Conway after he missed the last round at COTA with a broken collarbone
  • Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA was seventh with its #12 Cadillac V-Series.R Hypercar as Alex Lynn, Will Stevens and Norman Nato pushed to try and add to their Interlagos win in July
  • The highest placed Ferrari was the #50 499P as Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and the recently re-signed Nicklas Nielsen made it seven manufacturers in the Top 10 in Hypercar
  • In 10th position sat the #6 Porsche Penske 963 Hypercar with last year’s winners Laurens Vanthoor and Kevin Estre out to defend their Fuji crown on Sunday

LMGT3

  • Akkodis ASP Lexus also topped a second consecutive session but this time it was the #87 Lexus driven by Clemens Schmid, who shares the car with Jose-Maria Lopez and Petru Umbrarescu. The Interlagos winning car set a best lap of 1m41.431s with Scmid at the wheel
  • That time by Austrian, Schmid, who was 0.2s quicker than the #59 United Autosports McLaren, which continued to lap consistently quickly at Fuji Speedway. James Cottingham, Sebastien Baud and Gregoire Saucy each enjoyed time at the wheel but it was Baud who claimed the best time on a 1m1m41.661s
  • Akkodis ASP Lexus also took third with the FP1 pace setting #78 car of Ben Barnicoat, Arnold Robin and Finn Gehrsitz. That crew is aiming to beat its best result of the season to date which was fourth position at the opening round in Qatar
  • Fourth in LMGT3 was the Manthey 1stPhorm Porsche as Richard Lietz, Riccardo Pera and Ryan Hardwick look to try and extend their points lead in the category this weekend before heading in to the season finale at Bahrain in early November
  • Completing the top six in LMGT3 was the #21 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari and the #77 Proton Competition Ford Mustang
  • Two brief Full Course Yellow periods were called for in the 90-minutes session when some debris had to be removed from the circuit
  • The third and final free practice session is scheduled to start at 09.50 local time on Saturday morning
