There will be something for everyone at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) next weekend as the Southeast Austin race track hosts Lone Star Le Mans. A festival of sports car racing, music and entertainment will be headlined by the 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas, the fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship racing into the night, and a family-friendly atmosphere is guaranteed for all.
On September 19 and 20 visitors to COTA will be able to experience the finest, wheel-to-wheel sports car racing in the world with a world-class cast of teams and drivers representing 20 different nationalities. Alongside the FIA WEC will be cars, teams and drivers from North America’s premier sportscar series, the Tudor United Sportscar Championship.
The 3.4-mile state-of-the-art racetrack will be humming on both days with cars from top manufacturers such as Audi, Toyota, Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Chevrolet and more, and the USA will be strongly represented in the 6 Hours of COTA with entries from several teams including Corvette Racing.
Meanwhile, a wide variety of activities, games, concerts and attractions will be easily accessible throughout the Southeast Austin facility, including:
• A taste of Texas with Armadillo racing, cowboy rodeo ropers, mechanical bull riding and live Texas Longhorns
• Get the racing bug with Go-kart racing, race simulators and remote-control racing (Race Bug)
• Children’s entertainment with "Cowboy Dan" and face painting
The evening will be topped off with a fireworks display starting at 9:45 pm while the cars are still on the track!
American rock band Blue Oyster Cult, best known for songs such as “The Reaper” and “Burnin’ for You,” will perform at 4 pm on Saturday, September 20 at the circuit’s 14,000-seat Austin 360 Amphitheater.
National country artist Wayne “The Train” Hancock and local bands Mike Barfield, the Tyrant of Texas Funk, and Brownout will also perform at the top of every hour starting at 6 pm, also on Saturday.
Both series welcome fans to get as close as possible to the cars and to the drivers, including ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” star and race driver Patrick Dempsey who successfully took part in the third round of the FIA WEC, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. There is also the opportunity to meet the stars of the FIA WEC, including Mark Webber, André Lotterer, Tom Kristensen, Alex Wurz and those very familiar to US fans like Scott Sharp and Mike Conway. An open paddock, pitlane walks and autograph sessions will give you and your family unbelievable access to these incredible race machines and the men and women who drive or engineer them.
Lone Star Le Mans is a great way to introduce yourself and your family to inexpensive, easily accessible, world-class racing all within minutes of Downtown Austin at Circuit of The Americas. Tickets for all of the above cost just $79 a person and free for children 12 and younger accompanied by an adult.
