The start of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship is just days away and, while we are obviously thinking about our competitors, we are also thinking of our fans – those loyal, passionate followers of endurance racing who give back to the WEC every bit as much as we, the organisers and competitors, give to them.
These days everyone carries a mobile phone with them, but not everyone has a professional camera and all its associated equipment. So for 2016 the WEC is launching a photography competition for fans which will be on INSTAGRAM. On offer as the Grand Prize is the opportunity for the lucky winner and his/her guest to attend as VIP guests the season finale, 6 Hours of Bahrain 2016, plus the WEC Awards Ceremony.
Opening on 15th April and running until 21st October 2016, entrants must post on Instagram a photo representing the “Spirit of Le Mans” from one of the FIA WEC races (listed below) that they have attended. They must use the hashtag #WECPhotoComp2016 in their photo’s description, state at which race the photo was taken, and must follow the FIA WEC’s official Instagram @fiawec_official.
Entrants may submit as many entries as they wish, and the photos must have been taken from the public areas around the track or in public access areas. Photos taken from restricted areas (pit lane during the race / or in practice sessions or from someone using a press pass) will not be considered.
The overall winner will be selected by a jury of four people including a professional photographer, and judging will include aesthetics, technical quality, adherence to the theme and reproduction of the "Spirit of Le Mans." The best photo from each of the nine races will be identified, and the overall winner will come from within that group.
The superb prize, which has a value of approximately €5,000 will see the winner – who must be over 18 – plus a guest being flown to Bahrain on Thursday 17 November, 4 nights’ hotel accommodation, transfers to and from the circuit each day, hospitality including race-day Le Mans Spirit Club passes, and those coveted invitations to the end-of-season Awards Ceremony. Eight further prizes, for the photos selected as the best for each of the nine races will receive the complete 8-DVD collection of the 2016 FIA WEC season.

** The closing date for the contest is set for 21 October 2016 at 9 p.m. which is before the 2016 6 Hours of Shanghai and 6 Hours of Bahrain races in order to reserve enough time to select and notify the winner so that he or she will have time to arrange the trip to Bahrain.
