Interlagos gets a make-over!

Interlagos gets a make-over!
05/08/2014

Since July 15th the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace, located in the outskirts of São Paulo, has been welcoming some unusual vehicles such as trucks, cranes and bulldozers.  They are busy resurfacing the track and pit lane before starting on new pit garages.

While drivers enjoy the layout of the circuit known as Interlagos, cars don't as much because of the bumpy surface. This feature of the Brazilian circuit may well disappear after the resurfacing of the track and pit lane which should be completed before the F1 Grand Prix takes place early November, followed by the final round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, the 6 Hours of São Paolo, on November 30th.

The new asphalt is only the first stage of a modernisation project in full swing at a cost of US$160 million, agreed upon by the city of São Paulo who manage the venue.  They want to attract more visitors because motorsports generates significant revenues for the local economy. The construction of new garages is also planned but, in the meantime, the current pits are to be upgraded.
