Hoping to pick up from where he left off with a brilliant pole position and victory at Le Mans back in June, Nicolas Lapierre is back in the electric blue KCMG ORECA 05-Nissan cockpit at COTA this weekend.
The Frenchman re-joins the team at what is scheduled to be his final WEC round with the LMP2 points' leaders. Deputising for Nick Tandy, who is racing at the Lone Star weekend in the TUSC, Lapierre will again join up with Richard Bradley and Matt Howson.
“It is good to be back for another WEC race. The car has come a long way since The Prologue when we had a few problems,” said Lapierre. “The way that the KCMG team and the engineers have worked with the drivers is really impressive. To be so quick at Le Mans and then at a high-downforce track like Nurburgring too is great.”
Lapierre believes that he can assist and further contribute to the team, extending its points advantage which currently sees it 15 points clear of the No.28 G-Drive Racing squad in the 2015 FIA Endurance Trophy for LMP2 Teams.
“A lot has changed on the set-up since I drove it and it will be my first experience of the high downforce spec,” continued the Frenchman. “The championship is on for the team and Richard (Bradley) and Matt (Howson). I am here to help, for sure it is a little strange when you are not in the championship lead yourself, but I knew it would be like this from the start and I will do everything I can to make the team has a perfect season.”
