Points summary sees title chase hot up at halfway stage

The points shakeout from the 6 Hours of Mexico presented by AT&T weekend provides some interesting reading as we head towards the sixth round of the FIA WEC.

In the 2017 LMP FIA World Endurance Championship, the third straight win for the potent Brendon Hartley, Timo Bernhard and Earl Bamber alliance sees their advantage now stretch to 41 points. With 104 points still on the table though there is still much to play for and in endurance racing the old maxim of ‘anything can happen, and happen quickly’ should sound as a warning.

In the LMP1 FIA World Endurance Manufacturers title chase it is Porsche who hold all the aces as they now have a 56.5 point advantage over rivals Toyota.

The clamour to become the first ever GT FIA World Endurance Driver Champion is really hotting up as Harry Tincknell and Andy Priaulx’s lead is now down to just 8 points with Richard Lietz and Frederic Makowiecki clawing back three points on their rivals last weekend.

In the GT FIA World Endurance Manufacturers Championship Ferrari hold a slender 9 point advantage over Ford, with Aston Martin 22 in arrears. But in the teams standings it is Ford Chip Ganassi that has the upper hand with an 8 point gap to Porsche GT Team.

LMGTE Am sees the Dempsey-Proton Racing trio of Christian Ried, Marvin Dienst and Matteo Cairoli extend their lead to 10 points, while the in teams standings they lead Clearwater Racing by the same margin.

The 2017 LMP2 FIA World Endurance Drivers Trophy saw a significant bite taken out of Ho-Pin Tung, Thomas Laurent and Oliver Jarvis’ lead at ther weekend after they suffered delays due to a clutch issue. Bruno Senna and Julien Canal are now 25 points behind and hoping to use their momentum to catch the Jackie Chan DC Racing trio.

The same gap is reflected in the 2017 LMP2 FIA World Endurance Teams Trophy with Jackie Chan DC Racing heading Vaillante Rebellion.
