Some of the FIA World Endurance Championship’s biggest names took time out of their preparations for this weekend’s Lone Star Le Mans (5-7 September) to give something back to the local community tonight, as they participated in dispensing food parcels to local families in need.
In partnership with Central Texas Food Bank – the leading non-profit hunger-relief organisation in Central Texas – 80 paddock representatives from Akkodis ASP Team, Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA, Ferrari AF Corse, Heart of Racing Team, Porsche Penske Motorsport, Proton Competition, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies, Team WRT and United Autosports handed out more than 11,500 meals at Circuit of The Americas (COTA).
Drivers including reigning world champion Kévin Estre, former Rolex 24 At Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring winner Sébastien Bourdais, recent Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo winner Will Stevens and Aston Martin ace Alex Riberas distributed not only food but also race weekend tickets and team merchandise such as caps and flags.
“We are very happy to work with Central Texas Food Bank to help so many families in and around Austin,” commented FIA WEC Communication and Marketing Director, Marius Louvet. “This is our own small way of giving something back to the local community, and we were very proud to see so many members of the paddock turn out to lend a hand.
“Just like other major championships, we have a duty to generate emotions and put on a show, but alongside that, we have a duty to take genuine action in society. It’s very important for us to support vital initiatives like this, and to help in whatever way we can wherever we go.
“While our drivers and teams are fierce rivals on-track, off-track, we like to think of FIA WEC as one big motorsport family, and that sense of solidarity shines through in every aspect of what we do.”
The partnership with Central Texas Food Bank continues weekend-long at COTA, via a collective fundraising campaign entitled ‘Race with Us Against Hunger’, with an overall target of generating $20,000 USD. Donations can be made online.
