
In the dry third Free Practice session of the weekend in Shanghai Mark Webber posted a lap of 1m48.173 in the Porsche 919 hybrid to record the fastest lap of the event so far.
The session was interupted when newly crowned European Le Mans Series LMGTE Champion Viktor Shaitar spun off into the gravel at Turn 2 in the nr37 SMP Racing LMP2 Oreca and the Race Director used a Full Course Yellow to slow the field to enable the car to pushed back onto the track safely.
The Free Practice session resumed with a few minutes on the clock. with the no20 Porsche finishing 0.2 seconds ahead of the no8 Toyota.
Mathias Beche in the no12 Rebellion R-One posted a quick lap just before the chequered flag to move ahead of the no13 car to head the LMP1-L class.
The no26 G-Drive Racing made it three out of three with the quickest LMP2 time in FP3, Olivier Pla posting a 1m55.050 lap, 1.2 seconds ahead of the no37 SMP Racing Oreca, the time set by Kirill Ladygin earlier in the session before Shaitar's spin.
The teams are now preparing for qualifying for the 6 Hours of Shanghai, which begins at 13:20 (local) / 06:20 (CET).
