LMP2 news round up from 6 Hours of Silverstone

Below is a news round up from all the LMP2 teams that provide us with information.  In recognition of its class victory, above is the crew of No.25 Delta-ADR ORECA 03-Nissan celebrating on the podium - Tor Graves, Antonio Pizzonia and James Walker.

ORECA (chassis provider to Delta-ADR, G-Drive Racing, Pecom Racing)

After a double podium finish on Saturday for the European Le Mans Series debut, the ORECA 03 started its FIA World Endurance Season with a well-deserved victory ! Authors of the pole position, G-Drive Racing by Delta-ADR took the LM P2 class win with drivers Antonio Pizzonia, Tor Graves and James Walker.

In an ultra competitive category, three constructors finished in the top three positions at the end of 6 hours of racing at Silverstone. The two other ORECA 03 chassis, powered by the Nissan V8 prepared in the ORECA workshops at Magny-Cours, showed their competitiveness. After experiencing a difficult start to the race, Pecom Racing claimed the the third step of the podium. The second G-Drive Racing by Delta-ADR car led the first two hours of the race before falling victim to an accident, but Mike Conway in that car set the fastest race lap.

OAK Racing

OAK Racing made an excellent start to their 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign at the 6 Hours of Silverstone today by finishing second and fifth in the LMP2 class, while the team’s non-WEC entry was eighth.

Olivier Pla, Alex Brundle and David Heinemeier Hansson overcame changeable weather conditions throughout the race to bring the #24 Morgan-Nissan LM P2 home second behind Delta-ADR.

The French squad’s #35 sister car driven by Bertrand Baguette, Martin Plowman and Ricardo Gonzalez had also looked like a podium candidate for much of the race but was ultimately denied by a starter motor issue during one of its pit-stops. The five minutes lost would prove costly late in the race when fading tyres rendered Plowman helpless to hold on to third.

Pecom Racing

Pecom Racing team on the podium in the “Six Hours of Silverstone” (LMP2 category), round one of the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship. The drivers of the Argentinian team – Luis Perez Companc, Pierre Kaffer and Nicolas Minassian – were third in the endurance race on Sunday, April 14th, following a post-race decison by the Stewards which promoted the team from the fourth place in which it crossed the finish line.

The Pecom Racing Oreca 03 powered by Nissan (with Michelin tyres ) started from the P7 on the grid; following, the race of the Pecom Racing drivers was troubled by a collision with another LMP2 prototype which crashed into its front-right wing. Thanks to extremely quick repairs in the pits, clever strategy at the wall and very fast stints of each of the three drivers, the team enabled to collect a top-three result. #

Lotus

The first race of the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship took place today at Silverstone Circuit. Lotus Praga LMP2 was starting from the third row in LMP2 class with Vitantonio Liuzzi (#31) and Jan Charouz (#32) at the wheel of the new Lotus Praga T128 LMP2 cars.

Charouz was hit by a competitor in the first lap and had to come back to the garage in order to fix the damages. After 90 minutes, #32 was ready to go again and took the chequered flag after six hours.  The sister car #31 had to retire from the race after about two hours due to steering problems. Until then, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Kevin Weeda and Christophe Bouchut completed 42 laps.

In total, the team added a total of 155 laps to its tally and collected a lot of valuable data about the new car in preparation for the next races.
