Luck of the Irish – Why Matt Griffin loves the WEC

Luck of the Irish – Why Matt Griffin loves the WEC
01/05/2015

He is a familiar face in paddocks all over the world and has a racing schedule that would make most exhausted by just looking at it. But Matt Griffin, driving in the #55 AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia has been looking forward to this particular weekend since the start of the year.

“I love racing in the WEC because, from a personal perspective, it is the benchmark and pinnacle for a driver,” says the Irishman. “The level is as high as it gets and although we are only confirmed for Spa and Le Mans, we will enjoy gauging ourselves against the competition here.”

Griffin will share the #55 AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia with WEC debutants Duncan Cameron and Alex Mortimer this weekend and believes that a good result could be on the cards this weekend.

“We are definitely quick enough but we are aware that the goal is to gain experience at Le Mans for Duncan and Alex. The WEC is fantastically well organised and it is brilliant to be back racing and a pleasure to be on the grid here. We’ll be competitive and depending on the conditions will give a good account of ourselves.”
