After exploding on to the International scene in 2013, Kévin Estre has been one of the hottest properties in sportscar racing over the last two seasons.
The 26 year-old from Lyon makes his WEC debut this weekend with Porsche Team Manthey in the #91 Porsche 911 RSR, sharing with Sven Muller. Estre has been loaned to the Porsche team from the McLaren factory for a one-off appearance at Spa this weekend.
“I have not driven the car yet but I don’t think it will take me long to get comfortable and I have driven a lot of Porsches before and many races at Spa of course,” stated Estre. “I have a lot of meetings with the engineers today and luckily I already know our race engineer – Andrea Mercatelli from working with him at Daytona in 2012. So that will be a good head start for me as we get on very well and understand each other.”
“Our goals this weekend is to score some good points for the team and limit any mistakes in the race itself, but I never drive to just tour around,” he continued. “There is no big priority except at the present to learn all about the car and maybe get my seat completed.”
Estre, who is fresh from another success in his GT programme in the US last weekend, is relishing being involved in the WEC.
“For sure it is great for me to be in the World Endurance Championship especially at a time when it is growing and growing with some of the best teams and drivers in sportscar racing. I cannot wait to get out on the track.”
Estre and his team mate Sven Muller will begin their preparations tomorrow when Free Practice gets underway at 12.00 local time.
