Rain halts the second Free Practice Session at COTA

Rain halts the second Free Practice Session at COTA
21/09/2013

The 28 entrants for Sunday’s 6 Hours of The Circuit of The Americas had barely been running for 10 laps when the heavens opened this afternoon, and everyone came into the pits.  Indeed, many cars did no more than 3 or 4 laps before calling the second Free Practice Session to an early halt and returning the cars to the pit garages.

Taking advantage of 20 minutes of a reasonably dry track, Toyota’s No.8 TS030 Hybrid shows itself at the top of the time sheets ahead of the two Audis with a time of 2:00.756. The No.26 G-Drive Racing ORECA Nissan led the two OAK Racing Morgan Nissans in LMP2, its fastest lap being recorded as 2:10.989.

Aston Martin Racing maintained its dominance in both the LMGTE Pro and Am categories, with the No.99 setting the pace in the former with a lap of 2:17.808 and the No.96 Vantage V8 setting the mark for the latter at 2:18.138.

The weather conditions deteriorated considerably as the afternoon wore on, and all are hoping that it will be dry tomorrow for the third and final one-hour of practice at 08:40 Hours (local) tomorrow morning.
