WEC welcomes next generation of endurance fans

13/10/2016

Children from a local school close to Fuji Speedway (Elementary School Mukaida, 5th grade) had the time of their lives as they got a special guided tour of the FIA World Endurance Championship paddock this afternoon.

Seeing the full range of set-up in the vibrant Fuji paddock, the children were thrilled to meet drivers and teams as they spent several hours at the iconic track.

Starting with a presentation and video to build anticipation for their visit the children then got 'technical' with an informative trip to the official technical checks area at scrutineering. There, several members of the FIA WEC technical team explained the methods used to ensure all the cars adhere to the regulations.

The next venue was to visit the teams, with Porsche Team, Toyota GAZOO Racing, Aston Martin Racing and Manor welcoming the groups and introducing some of the drivers and team bosses. They were pleased to pass on their expertise and the children were showered with gifts and merchandise as they got an in-depth glimpse into the world of the racing teams and their drivers.

After refreshments the group then bid farewell to the WEC paddock but took time out to pose for photos at the entry to the paddock. Perhaps in years to come some may come back to Fuji Speedway as future drivers, team personnel or media. One thing is for sure, the kids of the Fuji school got a very special field trip this Thursday afternoon!
