There was fun in the pits and paddock at a sunny Fuji Speedway on Saturday as fans joined drivers to master a classic Japanese cultural skill – Origami!
Jonny Kane and Lewis Williamson from the Strakka Racing LMP2 team were joined by Andy Priaulx from the Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK squad and three lucky fans to perfect their paper folding skills.
The three fans were selected from the Japanese FIA WEC Facebook page and enjoyed the atmosphere of the pitlane after qualifying.
“I didn’t want fold under that pressure,” said an enthused Lewis Williamson. “It was tougher than qualifying to get the sharp lines. I just had to take a leaf out of my Japanese mentor’s book. At first it was hard, especially from a clean sheet of paper but in the end we were creased up laughing.”
Strakka Racing teammate Jonny Kane was equally impressed by the unfolding fun of his new found craft, saying: “We were flying at the start. My origami partner and I were like birds of a feather and we just took off.”
Making both a British and Japanese flag, the folding contestants concentrated hard as they tested their dexterity skills to the max!
