What the Drivers say on Thursday at Spa

What the Drivers say on Thursday at Spa

Darren Turner – Aston Martin Racing: “When you have weather like we have had today a lot of the plans go out of the window obviously. But we still had some options to try out in the wet conditions and also to give Rob (Bell) time in the cockpit.

“If we have a dry FP3 tomorrow we will all have to get time in the car which won’t be ideal but overall we  did some good work for wet conditions which could be handy here if the weather remains indifferent.”

Andre Lotterer – Audi Sport Team Joest: “We are here to gather as much information for Le Mans of course so we took the decision to come with this version (low drag) of the car.  The conditions were tough and the incident with Oli (Jarvis) could have happened to anyone. Oli is ok, the car less so and we all hope Kazuki is ok.”

Matt Howson - KCMG: “We chose to do minimal running today as the risk of damaging the car is obviously greater in these conditions. In many ways it was not what we needed because Nico (Lapierre) needs to get more experience in the car. Hopefully we can have some dry running now and get more data. We know we are strong on the straights with the bodywork package that was homologated, but we still have a lot of work to do on the set-up for the slower and medium speed corners.”

Mitch Evans – JOTA Sport: “I haven’t done much in the car at all and just did a few earlier in the year so it will be important for some good laps in the dry. Obviously one of the biggest aspects for me to learn quickly will be cutting through the traffic and also watching out for the LMP1 cars. But I’m very fortunate to have advice from Harry (Tincknell), Simon (Dolan) and also Mark (Webber).

“I am also a very good friend of Richie Stanaway and we have been talking and he has been giving me advice on how the GT cars operate on the track too.”

Rui Aguas – AF Corse: “The second session was good as we were P1 but honestly it was very difficult to drive in these very wet conditions. The forecast is always very tricky here at Spa so we are not sure 100% what it will be like tomorrow and Saturday. All we can do is adapt to the conditions we are running in and that is what we did today.”
