2nd Qualifying session: Toyota tops timesheets with Porsche leading LMGTE Pro

Following the second Le Mans Qualifying session, the No. 7 Toyota TS050 HYBRID tops the timesheets after Kamui Kobayashi clocked a fastest time of 3:15.497, 0.411s quicker than its sister No. 8 car.

The time eclipses Kobayashi’s fastest time from last night’s qualifying where the team set a fastest overall time of 3:17.161.  Russian team SMP Racing in the No. 17 BR Engineering BR1 car was third quickest – and fastest out of the Non-Hybrid cars – with Mikhail Aleshin setting an early session time of 3:16.953. 

Elsewhere, there was trouble for the No. 3 Rebellion R13 – Gibson when the car stopped with suspected engine issues on the Mulsanne Straight with Thomas Laurent at the wheel.  The session was red flagged for 23 minutes.

LMP2 saw the No. 1 DragonSpeed Oreca 07 quickest with a time of 3:26.490 at the wheel.  Championship front-runners Jackie Chan DC Racing No. 38  Oreca 07 was second ahead of Signatech Alpine Matmut's No. 36 Alpine A470. All three cars powered by Gibson were separated by just 0.445s.

Porsche provisional pole-sitter in LMGTE Pro

Porsche have taken the provisional pole in LMGTE Pro with the No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR setting a time of 3:49.388 with Michael Christensen at the wheel in the session’s closing stages.  Second quickest in the WEC field behind the No.63 Corvette was the No. 67 Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK car with the No. 91 Porsche third fastest out of the ten WEC entries.

In LMGTE Am, it was the No. 88 Dempsey-Proton Porsche 911 RSR that was fastest for the second session in a row with a time of 3:52.454, leading the No. 56 of Team Project 1 in a similar car.  Third fastest was Spirit of Race with the Ferrari 488 GTE.

The third and final Qualifying session will get underway at 22h00.
