The quiet and commanding presence of ACO Chief Scrutineer Daniel Perdrix has been a regular presence at all the FIA World Endurance Championship races to date, and for decades longer at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 6 Hours of São Paulo, however, will be his last FIA WEC race although he will continue to be seen at European Le Mans Series events in 2015.
Following time with ESCRA (Ecole Supérieure du Commerce des Réseaux de l'Automobile), Daniel joined the ACO in January 1982. He oversaw the scrutineering of Group C cars from 1982-1992, and thereafter worked with former regulatory chief and Vice President of the Sport Department, Alain Bertaut, to form the new regulations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
To thank him for the many years of support, and to honour his commitment to the sport, Porsche arranged a very special ‘thank you’ for Daniel at Interlagos. He was yesterday given 4 laps around the Interlagos circuit in a Porsche GT3 Cup car, which had a second seat specially installed, in the hands of Vinicius Quadros who is the head of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge in Brazil.
The memories will live with him for long after the engines of the FIA WEC cars stop at the close of today’s 6 Hours of São Paulo. Au revoir Daniel et merci pour tous!
