Toyota Gazoo Racing driver Anthony Davidson has been ruled out of the 6 Hours of Mexico presented by AT&T this weekend due to a rib injury sustained in testing at Magny Cours last month.
The British racer and former WEC champion, who competes in the No.5 Toyota TS 050 HYBRID with Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima has been ruled out on doctors advice. Davidson completed five laps in the special collective test session at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this morning but was ruled out due to the rib injury.
“It is disappointing to come all the way here and then not be able to race but it’s the right decision,” said Davidson. “I wasn’t comfortable in the car this morning and there is no point to take any risks, especially with Austin coming up. It’s not a problem to race here with two drivers but it would be impossible in Austin due to the high temperatures. So I’ll be a frustrated spectator for the rest of the week but I know Séb and Kazuki will do a good job.”
Buemi and Nakajima will now drive the 6 Hours of Mexico presented by AT&T as a duo. It has been a tough start for Toyota Gazoo Racing as the sister No.6 car was heavily damaged in an accident this morning when Stephane Sarrazin crashed exiting the final corner. The team will now build up their car for Saturday’s race around a new monocoque for tomorrow morning’s Free Practice 3 session.
