Denmark's Nicolai Sylvest gets surprise WEC start in Japan

Denmark's Nicolai Sylvest gets surprise WEC start in Japan
30/09/2015

Nicolai Sylvest has unexpectedly been given a chance to show his racing talent in front of a large international audience. During the weekend of October 10th-11th he will be getting his debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the legendary Japanese circuit of Fuji, where he will be driving for Larbre Competition.

”A WEC drive is something that has been a longtime ambition for me, but that the opportunity has arisen so suddenly comes as a complete surprise for me,” Nicolai Sylvest says.

This year Larbre Competition has been taking part in the FIA World Endurance Championship including the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a Chevrolet Corvette C7 that is usually driven by the two Italians Gianluca Roda and Paolo Roberti as well as Dane Kristian Poulsen. And Kristian Poulsen has been influential in given Nicolai Sylvest his race chance.

”Kristian cannot travel to Japan and take part in the race due to an important business commitment in his company, and he therefore suggested the team that I should replace him for this race,” the 18-year old Dane says. “I am very grateful to Kristian for that and I sincerely hope that I can live up to his trust in me by doing a good race in Japan.”

After a career in karting and then single-seaters Nicolai Sylvest this year switched to GT racing, where he has been driving a Mercedes SLS AMG for the German Team Rowe Racing in the Blancpain Endurance Series.

”I am really pleased to have raced for Team Rowe Racing this year, and I feel convinced that Larbre Competition took a look at our results when they considered me for the drive in Japan,” Nicolai Sylvest says.

Larbre Competition is one of France’s most successful teams within the sport of GT Racing, where the team has been active since 1988. No less than five times has the team taken class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – most recently in 2012.
