FIA and ACO technical briefing on new LMP1 regulations
28/03/2014

With the introduction of new LMP1 technical regulations for 2014, many questions were today posed by the specialist motorsport media present at The Prologue to the gentlemen responsible for the formation and government of the new rules.

Introducing the technical briefing was Vincent Beaumesnil, the ACO’s Sport Director who reminded us that the new regulations for hybrid LMP1 prototypes were “not an evolution but a revolution” of the existing rules.  He paid tribute to the teams and manufacturers – Audi, Porsche and Toyota – who have embraced the new regulations fully and in a relatively short amount of time.  “Huge congratulations should go to the teams who have managed to significantly reduce fuel consumption at the same time as maintaining the level of performance.”

Bernard Niclot, the FIA’s Technical Director also reminded the audience that the World Endurance Championship (WEC) is the major world championship to be technology driven from the point of view of the manufacturers.  He noted, “We are very conscious of nurturing technologies and innovations in the WEC which are relevant to future road use.”
