Ford Hypercar begins testing programme in France

Ford Racing’s new Hypercar has been pictured on-track for the first time at Circuit Paul Ricard in southern France, as testing gets underway ahead of the American automotive giant’s debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s top-tier in 2027.

Alongside fellow iconic brand and LMGT3 category rival McLaren, Ford will swell the series’ burgeoning Hypercar ranks next year. Following the successful rollout of the McLaren MCL-HY in Italy in May, the Blue Oval’s own challenger – yet to be publicly named – has now similarly been shaken down.

The prototype first ventured out of the pits behind closed doors earlier this month, working methodically through a comprehensive plan to activate and verify all of its control systems, which the team reports are fully functional and ready for the official tests scheduled for this week and next.

Matt Campbell, Mike Rockenfeller and Tom Blomqvist were on-site for the initial shakedown run, with the Australian and stablemate Logan Sargeant subsequently taking to the wheel yesterday (17 August) at Paul Ricard, while Blomqvist is due to join them in the coming days.

British duo Sebastian Priaulx and Nick Yelloly complete Ford’s 2027 Hypercar line-up, with the Michigan-based marque aiming to recreate former glories at Le Mans while simultaneously doing battle for world championship honours.
