Good luck to our WEC competitors at Daytona!

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship kicks off its 2021 season this weekend with its hallmark event, the Rolex 24 At Daytona, where several WEC teams and drivers are in attendance.

The WEC’s regular LMP2 teams High Class Racing, Cetilar Racing and Racing Team Nederland will all be competing in the 10-car LMP2 category.  They will also go up against DragonSpeed USA, who have confirmed a full-time WEC entry for 2021.

In the headline DPi category, Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Kamui Kobayashi will be competing under the Ally Cadillac Racing banner – the Japanese Hypercar driver will be vying for his third outright victory at the IMSA classic.  Kobayashi will be up against his Toyota No. 7 team-mate Mike Conway who is entered under the Whelen Engineering Racing banner this weekend.

Other WEC names in the top-tier DPi class include United Autosports’ Filipe Albuquerque, Inter Europol Competition’s Renger Van der Zande and RealTeam Racing’s Loic Duval.  DragonSpeed USA's Juan Pablo Montoya – who will also compete in the WEC this year – is present at Daytona with Meyer Shank Racing.

Elsewhere, Alpine Elf Matmut’s Nicolas Lapierre will compete in the LMP2 class – in the same team as Ben Keating who is confirmed to drive for TF Sport in the WEC’s LMGTE Am category.

The GTLM category also sees plenty of familiar WEC faces including AF Corse Ferrari’s No. 51 team-mates Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado who will drive for Risi Competizione. Daniel Serra will also drive in the GTD category with AF Corse – in the same team as LMGTE Am driver, Nicklas Nielsen. WeatherTech Racing’s line-up includes Porsche GT Team drivers Kevin Estre, Richard Lietz and Gimmi Bruni.

On behalf of everyone at the FIA WEC, we wish our drivers the very best of luck this weekend!
