Spa preview: The fight intensifies in the Ardennes as Toyota looks to repeat Imola win

Toyota heads to Spa-Francorchamps as the early-season championship leader, but Ferrari has a point to prove after its Japanese rival spoiled the tifosi’s party during last month’s curtain-raising outing in Italy.

At Imola, Toyota confidently launched its title bid with a milestone victory in its 100th FIA WEC start, laying down the first marker of the new campaign. Now, the championship moves on to one of endurance racing’s most iconic circuits, where pace alone is never enough and where the race has a habit of revealing who is really ready for the months ahead.

That is what makes Spa such an important stop in the story of the season. It is fast, flowing and unforgiving – a track that demands precision at speed and composure in traffic. Small mistakes tend to multiply, while good drivers and cars can really make a difference.

And with Le Mans next on the horizon, the TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps always carries an extra edge. It is not just another round – it is the last major test before endurance racing sets foot on its greatest stage.

Ferrari knows what it takes to win here. Last year, the #51 crew of Antonio Giovinazzi, James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi came through a tense contest to triumph in Belgium, underlining the strength that would carry the crew through the remainder of its title-winning campaign. And in second place? Ferrari’s #50 entry.

That history adds another layer this weekend. Toyota arrives with confidence, Ferrari returns to a happy hunting-ground – and the fight at the front is shaping up nicely...
