Jan and Kevin Magnussen to drive together at Le Mans

Team Sashi High Class Racing has confirmed that father and son duo Jan and Kevin Magnussen will compete together at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans (21-22 August).

Team Sashi High Class Racing has hired Kevin Magnussen to team up with his father, Jan, at this year’s Le Mans, round four of the FIA WEC. The pair will be joined by Anders Fjordbach in the No. 49 Oreca 07-Gibson.

While Magnussen Sr has masses of sportscar experience with 22 Le Mans starts to his name, including four GT category wins with Corvette Racing, Kevin will be making his debut in the French endurance classic.

The future Peugeot Sport Hypercar driver took part in the 24 Hours of Daytona earlier this year and put in a fine performance at the wheel of a Cadillac DPi. However, his career so far has mainly focused on Formula One with 116 Grand Prix starts for McLaren, Renault and the Haas F1 Team.

The Magnussens will not be the first father-and-son combo to compete at the 24 Hours. Past races have seen Derek and Justin Bell, Martin and Alex Brundle, and Mario and Michael Andretti share a seat, while in 2010, Nigel Mansell was joined by his two sons, Greg and Leo, but crashed out shortly after the start.

High Class Racing will compete in the upcoming Prologue (26-27 April) in Spa, followed by the season-opening TOTAL 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (29 April – 1 May). Driving in Belgium for the team will be the all-Danish trio made up of Jan Magnussen, Anders Fjordbach and Dennis Andersen.
