Reigning Indy 500 champion and three time Daytona 24 Hours winner Juan Pablo Montoya took time out to visit the Porsche Team garage today at Circuit of The Americas.
The Colombian was given a tour of the facilities and a look at the Porsche 919 Hybrid that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June and the 6 Hours of Nurburgring just last month.
"It's great to be here to see old friends, and see such an amazing machine like the Porsche 919, and to talk about maybe testing it," Montoya told RACER.com.
“I have worked with Juan Pablo before (at Williams BMW in 2004) and we have kept in touch,” said Porsche team manager, Andreas Seidl. “At lunchtime we discussed a test for him and he wants to do it. I think we will do it this year and we will have to see what happens after that.”
Montoya will be watching this afternoon in qualifying to see if Porsche can convert its pace in the three Free Practice sessions to secure a front row lockout for tomorrow's 6 Hours of Circuit of The Americas. Qualifying begins at 18h15 (local) for LMP1 and LMP2 competitors and is preceeded at 17h45 by qualifying for LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am.
