With the days passing ever faster towards the fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, the 6 Hours of Circuit of The Americas on Saturday 20th September, it’s a good chance to look at how the championship tables stand following the 24 Hours of Le Mans and before the mid-season point.
LMP1 Manufacturers World Championship
Toyota Racing lead the Championship with 115 points, just one single point ahead of Audi whose double points haul for their 1-2 finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans pulled back a massive 55 points on Toyota’s lead. Porsche stay in third on 60 points, but there’s plenty of opportunity to make up ground in the coming months.
World Endurance Drivers Prototype Championship
The double race-winning No.8 Toyota crew of Anthony Davidson, Nicolas Lapierre and Sébastien Buemi lead with 80 points, and hold a 20 point margin over the Le Mans-winning No.2 Audi trio of André Lotterer, Benoît Tréluyer and Marcel Fässler. Audi team mates Tom Kristensen and Lucas di Grassi hold third place, a further 6 points adrift, with Loïc Duval falling to ninth after his withdrawal from the No.1 Audi at Le Mans.
Fourth in the standings, courtesy of an excellent run at Le Mans, is the No.12 Rebellion line up of Mathias Beche, Nick Heidfeld, Nicolas Prost, ahead of Marc Gené (36 points for his one-off, double points-scoring second place at La Sarthe). The No.7 Toyota crew of Alex Wurz, Stephane Sarrazin and Kazuki Nakajima are sixth, with the six Porsche drivers now split by the No.27 SMP Racing trio from Le Mans, Sergey Zlobin, Anton Ladygin and Mika Salo. Marc Lieb, Neel Jani and Romain Dumas from the No.14 Porsche are seventh in the standings on 33 points, 10.5 points ahead of the Russian-Finnish combination, while Brendon Hartley, Mark Webber and Timo Bernhard from the No.20 entry are currently 12th.
Points in this Championship are scored by the WEC-registered LMPs (LMP1-H, LMP1-L or LMP2) in strict finishing order, whatever the class.
FIA Endurance Trophy for Private LMP1 Teams/Drivers
It’s early days but, at present, the No.12 Rebellion trio hold 100 points in both the Drivers and Teams standings, while their team mates in the No.13 Rebellion have yet to open their score card due to technical issues with their new Rebellion R-One. With the new Lotus P1/01 due to make its debut in the Lone Star Le Mans weekend in Texas, no one will welcome the competition more than Rebellion!
Next will be LMP2...
