As the sun came out at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this afternoon so too did the carnival atmosphere as the paddock became a hive of noise and colour.
The feel-good factor could be felt as top-line endurance racing came back to Mexico after a 25 year absence. The anticipation was building as fans soaked up not only spectacular track action but also the abundant attractions in the fan parks and areas around the circuit.
The City of Mexico has quickly became a favourite of the WEC teams and personnel as the passionate Mexican racing fans descended on the track today to watch an exciting qualifying session.
Mexico City, one of the most vibrant cities on earth, looked resplendent in the warm and sunny conditions as the 32 WEC cars roared around the scenic circuit in the heart of Mexico City.
The fans were able to get up close and personal to the drivers and teams during the Friday pitwalk where posters and hero cards were handed out to the fans young and old.
“The Mexican fans are super enthusiastic and it makes a big difference to an event to have this kind of passion,” said WEC debutant Alfonso Toledano Jnr. “The atmosphere will be electric tomorrow for the race and the fans can look forward to an unbelievable race I am sure of this.”
The race is scheduled to begin at 13.30 tomorrow. For the full timetable click here
