MissionH24 and TOYOTA RACING are stepping up their pioneering partnership. Following collaborations on cooling and aerodynamics, a new milestone has been reached with an agreement for the Japanese automotive giant to supply a hydrogen combustion engine for MissionH24’s future prototype – aimed at enhancing performance for the H24EVO with zero CO2 emissions.
The Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), MissionH24 and TOYOTA RACING jointly made the announcement during this weekend’s sixth round of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign at Fuji Speedway in Japan – marking the latest exciting chapter in the history of the ground-breaking initiative.
“This new collaboration between MissionH24 and TOYOTA RACING reflects our respective commitments, shared by all of MissionH24’s partners, to successfully achieve the energy transition,” commented Pierre Fillon, President of the ACO and Co-President of MissionH24. “Hydrogen is one of the solutions for decarbonising mobility.
“We stated this from the very beginning, hence the name ‘MissionH24’, because while we know our goal, we do not necessarily know every step we will need to take to get there. Gaseous and liquid hydrogen, fuel cells and engines all offer opportunities for hydrogen storage and utilisation – and Toyota’s support demonstrates MissionH24’s determination and ambition.”

Launched in 2018 as a collaborative programme between the ACO and H24Project to promote hydrogen in racing, MissionH24 is reaching a significant stage in its development. After the LMPH2G and the H24 – which paved the way for zero CO2 emission-racing using gaseous hydrogen and fuel cells, the H24EVO will soon undergo its first tests, equipped with a combustion engine and tanks storing liquid hydrogen.
The TOYOTA RACING engine is based on a 3.5-litre, V6 unit developed specifically for motorsport. When paired with the prototype’s hybrid system, it is expected to deliver a maximum power output of 650 kW, significantly boosting the H24EVO’s performance and bringing it closer to the level of a prototype in European Le Mans Series – a step-up from the LMGT3 performance level targeted by its predecessors.
“This support from TOYOTA RACING is a tremendous boost for the H24EVO and MissionH24,” acknowledged Bassel Aslan, Technical Director of MissionH24. “It is already taking concrete form, as MissionH24 and TOYOTA RACING teams are currently working together on the engineering required to integrate the engine into the H24EVO.
“This work includes, in particular, designing the mechanical interfaces between the engine, chassis, and gearbox, and defining the communication architecture, electrical interfaces, controls and associated software requirements. This engine also offers high efficiency – a key asset for optimising the use of on-board liquid hydrogen and, consequently, the vehicle's range, which is a major advantage in endurance racing.”
