As reported on our social media sites, Porsche’s GTE works drivers Michael Christensen of Denmark and Frenchman Frédéric Makowiecki have recently tested the German manufacturer’s Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 prototype.
Both drivers were part of a three-day test at the Magny-Cours circuit near Nevers, France to help the team prepare for next weekend’s fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, the 6 Hours of Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. They tested alongside Porsche Team's Marc Lieb who offered invaluable advice and assistance to the duo.
Makowiecki is a regular driver in the 911 RSR fielded by Porsche Team Manthey in the FIA WEC, driving the No.92 with his compatriot Patrick Pilet in the US round, while Christensen, a graduate of Porsche’s junior programme and now a works driver, pilots a Porsche 911 RSR in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship.
“The 919 Hybrid is a fantastic car,” says Makowiecki. “I very quickly built confidence in the driving behaviour and picked up the pace from lap to lap. What amazed me the most were the high cornering speeds that are possible with this car.”
“As the LMP1-team, we’ve profited significantly from the excellent development and quality of the pilots in the GT field,” says Fritz Enzinger, Vice President LMP1. “Marc Lieb is the perfect example that the climb up the ladder from junior to the highest category at Porsche can work very well. By offering Michael and Frédéric this test, we can give something back within the Porsche motorsport family. Both have performed superbly and they’ve earned it.”
