Nicolas Prost enters his eighth season in endurance racing with the Rebellion Racing team in a year where he will race in the No.12 Rebellion Racing R-One-AER.
A familiar and friendly face in the WEC paddock, the son of four-time F1 World Champion Alain Prost will form a unique partnership with the son of the man his father duelled with so memorably for the 1983 and 1986 F1 titles – Nelson Piquet Jnr.
“Actually, I haven’t driven the car since Bahrain yet but I know it very well now,” said Prost. “It is great to have Nelson (Piquet) with us in the No.12 car for the start of the season at least. I have known him a few years and I think he will enjoy driving the car. The key things for us this season will be developing the engine more and also discovering the Dunlop tyres too. There is plenty for us to be working on at the Prologue.”
Prost, alongside team mate Mathias Beche, scored two LMP1 Privateer class victories at the 6 Hours of Fuji and 6 Hours of Shanghai last season on the way to taking the title. For this season the 34-year-old believes that the natural competition within the Rebellion team will push them to further success.
“Yes the class is small, but the motivation we have as a team means we are always pushing,” continued Prost. “We all know that it is super hard to get anywhere close to the manufacturer cars, but we have good competition between the No.12 and No.13 at Rebellion and I think it will be a really enjoyable season again in 2016.”
