Safety Car rules change to help the 'flow' of a race

Safety Car rules change to help the 'flow' of a race
12/04/2014

At a recent meeting of the World Motor Sport Council, a change to the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship Sporting Regulations was approved concerning the neutralisation of races without the use of a Safety Car.

The proposal on the use of a ‘Full Course Yellow’ (FCY) was agreed for cases when the track needs to be neutralised without having to resort to the Safety Car - one example might be to clear debris from the track.

Once under FCY, cars will slow down to 80 kph, line up, and maintain their distance to the car in front and the car behind.

The aim is that flow of the race will be less disrupted and there will be more hours of flat-out racing for competitors and fans to enjoy.
