The curtain-raising contest at Imola just over a week ago set the tone for a truly memorable season ahead, as reigning world champion Ferrari duelled it out for victory against a resurgent Toyota, with the Japanese marque – the most successful in FIA WEC history – inflicting a narrow defeat on the Prancing Horse in its backyard.

With its heavily-updated TR010 Hybrid, Toyota will be bidding to extend its winning run in Belgium – having also prevailed in the final race of 2025 in Bahrain – while Ferrari will be seeking revenge and Alpine will doubtless fancy its chances of springing a surprise. Les Bleus finished fourth around the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, and starred at Spa last year en route to the rostrum.

Elsewhere in the headlining Hypercar division, BMW took the chequered flag fifth and seventh in Italy, and will be back to full strength on Team WRT’s home turf with the addition of longstanding duo Dries Vanthoor (#15) and Sheldon van der Linde (#20), both of whom missed the season-opener due to clashing commitments.

Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA looked to be solidly in the mix to take the fight to Toyota and Ferrari at Imola prior to picking up a drive-through penalty for a yellow flag infringement. Will Stevens famously won at Spa two years ago, when JOTA wrote itself into the record books as the first privateer squad to triumph outright in the Hypercar era. The Briton and team-mate Norman Nato will be flanked in the #12 V-Series.R for the forthcoming event by series returnee, Louis Delétraz.

The Swiss star lifted the LMP2 category laurels in 2023, and is also a record-breaking four-time European Le Mans Series champion in the prototype class. He has been brought into the fold from his regular role in IMSA with Cadillac, to reinforce the ranks in the absence of Alex Lynn, who is recovering from a planned procedure for an ongoing neck issue. In the sister #38 entry, Jack Aitken will make his full-time FIA WEC bow.

In LMGT3, ‘Dudu’ Barrichello reclaims his place in the #23 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin from impressive Imola debutant Kobe Pauwels, while Blake McDonald continues to deputise for injured countryman Ben Keating in TF Sport’s #33 Corvette.
