It all began – or almost – at Spa back in 2018. MissionH24, the collaborative initiative between the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and H24Project, unveiled its first hydrogen prototype in the Ardennes via a refuelling session and a track demonstration with the pioneering vehicle.

Since then, many associated milestones have taken place at the Belgian circuit, including the installation of the first mobile hydrogen station by TotalEnergies, the maiden public tests of the prototype during the free practice sessions for the Michelin Le Mans Cup round in 2021 and demonstrations of the LMPH2G, the H24 and Alpine’s Alpenglow during FIA WEC events.

A forum for European University professors was organised in 2024 at the track by the ACO, FIA WEC and MissionH24 in conjunction with the project’s partners – the Automotive Skills Alliance, Green Skills for H2 and Hydrogen Europe Research – offering a platform for constructive discussion around future sustainability.

That proved such a success, that yesterday, the forum celebrated its third edition, combining theoretical courses and practical sessions with experts in energy transition alongside presentations from ACO President, Pierre Fillon and President of Hyundai Motorsport, Cyril Abiteboul.

The Hydrogen Village in the Fan Zone has been keeping spectators entertained during the second round of the 2026 FIA WEC campaign this weekend, featuring a wide variety of activations including remote-controlled hydrogen cars.

On display is the latest prototype from MissionH24 and its partners – the H24EVO – as well as an educational tyre from Michelin, made from 71% recycled materials, illustrating the French manufacturer’s progress in decarbonisation.

A hydrogen-powered H2 bus ran zero-emission demo laps on-track, and when stationary, has been using its H2 fuel cells to power the big screen in the Fan Zone, while the Lap of Honour ahead of today’s six-hour race will be completed by the hydrogen-fuelled Toyota GR Yaris H2 Concept.
