Porsche receives first ever Tourist Trophy
Porsche accepted its first ever Tourist Trophy, which was presented on the start and finish straight at Spa this morning.
The historic trophy, which includes the names of Tazio Nuvolari, Sir Stirling Moss, Graham Hill, Derek Bell and Denny Hulme as winners, was handed over to Porsche Team No.2 drivers Neel Jani, Marc Lieb and Neel Jani by the Royal Automobile Club’s Guy Nicholls for their victory in the 6 Hours of silverstone last month following the revision in the final results.
Aston Martin and Ford receive BoP amendments
A weight reduction has been given to the LMGTE Pro Aston Martin entries this weekend. A 20kg weight break this weekend means that its final weight will be 1213kgs. This compares to the Ferrari and Porsche which will both run at an unchanged 1243kgs, while Ford runs at 1263kgs.
The Ford GT, which took its first ever class win at Laguna Seca last Sunday, will have a larger fuel rig restrictor for Spa this weekend. The adjustment to the diameter of the fuel rig restrictor goes up from 28.8mm to 33.3mm for Spa and will see faster refuelling for the Ford Chip Ganassi squad to bring them level with their competitors.
GVDG & Jake Dennis ready for WEC debut
Giedo van der Garde and Jake Dennis, the two new boys to the FIA WEC this weekend were getting ready for action today with final checks before they get started at Spa in last season’s winning LMP2 car.
The Gibson 015S, which this year will run under the G-Drive Racing banner, has a fine history at Spa as a guest entry as it also finished second in 2014 in the hands of Simon Dolan, Harry Tincknell and Marc Gené.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for me – an absolute win-win situation for sure,” said Dennis. “I get my first taste of endurance racing with a Le Mans LMP2 class-winning team this weekend and I can’t wait to get started.”
Testing ramps up
There has been no rest since Silverstone for many of the teams, with all the major manufacturers testing.
Porsche along with Toyota, Audi and Ford were at the Motorland Aragon facility in Spain last month.
The Porsche Team accrued 7600kms of testing over four days in Spain to evaluate endurance aspects of its new low-drag bodywork and other Le Mans-specific components.

Looks good for a ‘Sunny Spa’
The FIA WEC always brings the sunshine to Spa and 2016 looks set to be no different with a settled forecast for the week ahead for the fans to enjoy.
Can there really be anywhere better this weekend than a warm and sunny Spa? With action set to rage throughout the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and with a multitude of off-track entertainments to thrill the crowds, the Ardennes venue will be the 'must-visit' place this Saturday.
“Spa on a day like this with the sun shining is about as good as it gets,” said Gulf Racing driver Adam Carroll. “You drive in here and see Eau Rouge on a sunny day it brings a smile to your face. You forget how big this place is, it is a brilliant track and one of the best, if not the best, in the world. I’m really looking forward to driving it in the Gulf Racing Porsche.”
