TOYOTA Racing’s World Champions Anthony Davidson and Sébastien Buemi have joined forces with the Federation International d’Automobile (FIA) to become 2015 FIA Action for Road Safety ambassadors.

Their role will be to help raise awareness of the campaign that aims to drastically reduce the number of deaths on the roads around the world through education and advocating globally for safer roads, vehicles and behaviours.

As part of the campaign the FIA recently launched a new online pledge aimed at promoting road safety and committing each road user to playing an active role in making roads safer. The pledge is available at www.fia.com/pledge.

In accepting the FIA’s invitation, both Toyota Racing drivers signed the FIA’s road safety pledge, which outlines the “10 Golden Rules of Road Safety”; simple everyday tips, designed as a guide for how every person can affect road safety.

Anthony Davidson: “Road safety is an immensely important topic and something I feel strongly about, both as a racing driver and as a parent. The statistics are very disturbing and it’s easy to see why the FIA has made road safety such a priority. I am pleased to contribute to this global effort and I will give my full support to the FIA’s Action for Road Safety campaign.”

Sébastien Buemi: “I am very happy to be an ambassador for the FIA Action for Road Safety campaign. It is a great initiative from the FIA and it has the potential to make a real impact on thousands of lives around the world. If everyone signs the pledge and follows the simple advice, there will be a significant improvement in road safety; this is the target.”

All road users around the world are invited to pledge their support and commitment to the FIA’s 10 Golden Rules for safer motoring, which are as follows:

1. Belt up

2. Respect the Highway Code

3. Obey the speed limit

4. Check my tyres

5. Drive sober

6. Protect my children

7. Pay attention

8. Stop when I’m tired

9. Wear a helmet

10. Be courteous and considerate

FIA Action for Road Safety campaign

The FIA Action for Road Safety campaign was launched in May 2011 in support of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020, which now reaches its mid-point. In order to remobilise international attention on this global challenge, the FIA is promoting awareness on road safety through its Member Clubs, partners and utilising its leading role in motor sport.

Road accidents kill 1.3 million every year and injure 50 million more. They are the number one killer of 15-29 year olds. Every day 500 children die on the world’s roads. Endurance Champions Join FIA Action for Road Safety
